John A. Cerrato, D.M.D.
Dr. Cerrato, his wife Mary Lou and his family reside in Garden City. He is a member of Nassau County Dental Society’s Board of Directors for more than a quarter of a century. One of the Society’s most important public services is its Peer Review process. Dr. Cerrato chaired the Society’s Peer Review Committee and served on the New York State Dental Association’s Peer Review Council for almost two decades. He served on NCDS’s Executive Board in the late 80’s and early 90’s and was elected Treasurer of the NCDS in 2004. In the past several years, he has served the NCDS as President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, co-chaired the Society’s Budget, Finance & Audit Committee, and then President.
Following his 1969 graduation (BS Biology) from New York University, Dr. Cerrato had a career as a teacher as well as in the corporate world. He attended the Columbia School of General Studies where he graduated with honors. In 1980, Dr. Cerrato graduated second in his class from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine earning additional honors including induction into the Cryer Society (top 10 at the school) plus his election to a prestigious national dental honor society, OKU. Dr. Cerrato was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists in San Antonio, Texas in October 2008. He has been in private practice since completing his general practice residency at Booth Memorial Hospital in Queens.
Recently, he was asked to join the dental staff at New York Presbyterian Hospital (formally Booth Memorial Hospital). He is enjoying giving back to his profession by training the residents.
George J. Sheehan, D.D.S.
Dr. Sheehan and his wife Eileen have been married since 1971. They have two children, Brian and Erin. Brian and his wife Tanya have two children, William and Jack. George and Eileen reside in Oyster Bay. Shortly after graduating high school, Dr. Sheehan spent two years in the US Army, one year as an infantryman in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He also spent fifteen years as a NYC Fireman. During his time on the FDNY he received his BS degree in Sociology and then attended Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1982.
Dr. Sheehan has been on the Nassau County Dental Society’s Board of Directors for more than twenty years. He served as Chair of Membership and on the Budget and Finance Committee. He has served as a Village trustee in Oyster Bay Cove for ten years and is also the Police Commissioner for his village. He has been the treasurer for the Youth and Family Counseling Agency of Oyster Bay / East Norwich for six years and now serves as the secretary for this agency. In March of 2010, he was installed as President of a national dental group — The American Academy of Dental Practice Administration. Dr. Sheehan has been asked to join the staff of Winthrop University Hospital, where he teaches the dental residents one morning each week. Dr.Sheehan enjoys running, playing soccer, kayaking and of course his grandchildren.
Dominique C. Lizzio, D.D.S.
Dr. Lizzio and her husband, Nick have resided in Garden City since 2004. They have two children, Jake and Alexis. Dr. Lizzio is an award winning dentist who has been caring for the residents of Long Island since 1997. She graduated from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1997 and holds a B.S. degree in Biology from St. John’s University. She completed her residency training at Mount Sinai Hospital where she was an attending dentist for many years.
Dr. Lizzio is extremely proficient in the areas of cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry. Her ability to make highly anxious patients feel comfortable and children look forward to their next check-up is just a few of the reasons for her success. She has extensive experience in providing treatment to adults suffering from severe dental anxiety that has caused them to avoid regular dental visits for years. Recognizing that oral and dental health can have a major influence on overall health, Dr. Lizzio is dedicated to providing holistic alternatives to treatment whenever possible and also has experience in treating patients with sleep disorders. Upon meeting her you will quickly see that her concern for her patients go beyond their teeth.
She is extremely happy to have joined practice with Dr. Cerrato and Dr. Sheehan in Garden City. Dr. Lizzio is able to provide the highest level of dental care while maintaining time-honored values for her patients.
Dr. Lizzio has recently been named Pulse Magazine’s 2015 Doctor of Distinction. This honor is achieved when the most respected physicians and dentists in the area nominate those doctors who they believe set standards and strive for excellence in their field.
