Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a cost effective treatment alternative in which a tooth colored coating is applied to the surface of the tooth. The procedure derives its name from the fact that the applied material effectively protects and ‘seals’ the tooth surface.

The procedure is non-invasive and provides long-term results without the need for recurring appointments.

Dental sealants create a protective barrier in the deep pits and fissures of the teeth. Sealants prevent food debris and bacteria from growing in those hard to clean spaces. Because of the durability of materials used today, dental sealants are sturdy enough to withstand the repetitive force of normal chewing.

In some cases, for example, grinding (bruxism) and clenching of the teeth, a mouth guard or night guard may be fabricated to shield the sealant from untimely dislodging. The procedure is beneficial for people of all ages.
