How Veneers Can Help Reshape Your Smile

A new smile could be yours thanks to porcelain veneers. Find out how!

A smile is a canvas, and cosmetic dentistry is often the paint that creates the masterpiece. If you are dealing with a stained, chipped or misaligned smile, know that our Garden City, NY, dentists Dr. Dominique Lizzio, Dr. John Cerrato and Dr. Susie Ko offer porcelain veneers, a minimally invasive and permanent solution for correcting these imperfections and giving you’re the ideal smile you’re looking for.

What are dental veneers?

These thin porcelain shells are a popular way to help correct certain imperfections in a smile while also giving patients the smile they never thought possible. A better question might be, “What can’t veneers do?” While they can’t fix damaged teeth, these enamel-mimicking shells are bonded to the front of teeth to alter (for the better) the shape, size, shade and alignment of your smile. Veneers might be right for you if you are dealing with,

  • Stains and discolorations (particularly internal stains that are resistant to whitening treatment)
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Gaps or spaces between teeth
  • Slightly crooked or overlapping teeth
  • Malformed or oddly shaped teeth
  • Teeth that are too short or uneven
  • Teeth with pitted texture (caused by enamel erosion)

What is the process like for getting dental veneers?

Once you’ve turned to our Garden City, NY, cosmetic dentists and we’ve determined that veneers are right for you, here are the steps we will take to get you the smile you want,

  • We will trim a very small amount of enamel off the front of your teeth (just enough to make room for the veneers)
  • Our dental team will use a shade guide to choose the appropriate color of porcelain to use that will most closely match your smile
  • We will take impressions of your teeth to be sent to a lab, where they will craft your veneers (this process often takes about two weeks)
  • While waiting for your veneers to be fabricated, temporary veneers may be placed over the teeth to protect them
  • Once your veneers have been sent from the lab to our office, you’ll come in so we can evaluate and check the fit, shape and bite before bonding the veneers permanently to the front of your teeth
